Altitude and climate

Quito is located at an elevation of 9,350 feet (2,800 meters above sea level). The city and surroundings have a subtropical highland climate. Because of its elevation and its proximity to the equator, Quito has a fairly constant cool climate. The average temperature in October at noon is 25.2 °C (77.4 °F) with a normal night-time as low as 9.5 °C (49.1 °F). Sangolquí is located some 400 meters below Quito in the Valley of the Chillos. Quito as well as its valleys are known to be able to display all four seasons in one single day. Therefore, bring warm and long arm clothes as well as a sun blocker!

The international airport Mariscal Sucre is located 18 km east of Quito and some 24 km north of Sangolquí at an altitude of 2.400 m.a.s.l. Seventeen airlines operate out of the Airport offer nonstop flights to 24 international and 13 major domestic cities.
